Two goods trains derail after collision at Onda railway station in Bankura, 14 cancelled

Two goods trains collided at Onda railway station in Bankura. Rail operation on Kharagpur–Bankura–Adra line has been halted. As per the latest updates, the collision occurred in the wee hours Sunday that resulted in the derailment of several boggies. Video of the accident has gone viral on social media, where, several boggies of the good trains can be seen derailed on tracks. Following the incident, the South Eastern Railway cancelled 14 trains, diverted 3 and short-terminated 2 trains due to the derailment.

“14 trains cancelled, 3 diverted and 2 short terminated due to the derailment of goods train at Ondagram station of Adra Division today,” informed South Eastern Railway. CPRO, South Eastern Railway informed how the two goods trains collided and derailed. “Railway Maintainance train (BRN) shunting was going on at Ondagram station. Goods train (BCN) overshot the red signal and didn’t stop and derailed with the BRN maintenance train. Around 8 wagons derailed at around 4.05 hours. Restoration underway. The UP Mail line and Up loop line have already been restored at 7.45 hrs,” said CPRO, South Eastern Railway.

The Coromandel Express crashed into a stationary goods train, derailing most of its coaches around 7 pm on June 2 near the Bahanaga Bazar station. The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Super Fast Express and a goods train were involved in the pile-up, now being described as one of India’s worst train accidents.

A few coaches of the Coromandel Express whiplashed the last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express which was passing by at the same time.
